I heard this in a movie last night and found out that it’s something taught in recovery groups. It should be taught to everyone everywhere! Unfortunately, today we’re being taught to follow our feelings - that they are right. One very valuable thing my parents did teach me is that feelings aren’t right or wrong, they just are. What you do in response to them is what can be right or wrong - you always have a choice.
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” II Corinthians 5:7
“So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.” Galatians 5:16 NLT
Our feelings are often “desires of the flesh” and they are not from God. We need the filters of God’s word, faith and the help of the Holy Spirit to be able to make wise choices - we can’t do it on our own. We shouldn’t let our feelings dictate to us - but our culture is teaching the opposite. The only identity that is real and true is the one given to you by your creator, that is truth. It can’t be changed by our feelings.
