Philippians 4:13 is my lifeline verse. It has been my mantra at some very difficult times. Lots of folks have praised my strength, but it hasn’t been me, it was Christ in me. I’m grateful for the strong foundation of faith that those times produced in me, but I haven’t forgotten what it was like. It helps me to be compassionate and empathetic with others who are hurting and struggling not to give up!
This verse doesn’t mean that Jesus gave us a superpower or made us invincible like a video game though. When you read it in context, it is specifically written about enduring whatever circumstances you face. People will tell me they can’t endure the pain or the suffering or the anxiety, and with confidence I can encourage them. Not empty words, but faith-filled promises that though they might not be able to do it on their own(I surely couldn’t) they can if they let Jesus share the load. That’s what it means to surrender to Him and take on His yoke. “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Matthew 11:29
Finding rest for your soul! I just breathed a sigh of relief at that thought. Thank you Jesus for the work you do in us. Amen.
