““I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”” John 16:33
“Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”” Matthew 28:20 NLT
The promises of God are there for us to cling to, but we must be careful not to cling to something He didn’t promise! There are many “sayings” we use to comfort and encourage that aren’t actually Biblical.
God didn’t promise to open a window if He shuts a door. He did say to wait in the Lord, and “those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31
God didn’t promise to keep us safe from everything. He did say, “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the Lord delivers him out of them all.” Psalms 34:19 AND “And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope.” Romans 5:3-4
He didn’t promise to protect us from heartbreak. He said “The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, And saves such as have a contrite spirit.” Psalms 34:18
