More on Freedom

Our freedom is a precious gift from God. It’s not a gift from our government, but we are immensely blessed to live in a country where it’s not illegal to be a Christian, read the Bible or write this devotion. There are believers in prisons all over the world who have true freedom in Christ even though they are physically bound - just like Paul was so many times.

We are free to choose how we live out our faith… or don’t. But the Lord tells us to choose serving one another in love instead of following our own desires. In fact, the next verse makes it plain:

“For everything we know about God’s Word is summed up in a single sentence: Love others as you love yourself. That’s an act of true freedom.”

Galatians 5:14 MSG

Over and over again the Lord tells us to love each other. To serve each other with kindness and compassion. Is that what your church looks like to you? What about to outsiders or your town? I’m grateful to have found a church like that with Koinonia - I pray you have that too! I fear that too many churches are about politics these days instead of love and service, though. It’s a tragedy that the next verse warns us about: “If you bite and ravage each other, watch out—in no time at all you will be annihilating each other, and where will your precious freedom be then?”

‭‭Galatians‬ ‭5‬:‭15‬ ‭MSG‬‬

“Love one another as I have loved you.” Jesus said.
