Every one of us has habits, like little rituals we replay every day, that aren’t for our best.
I remember when my kids were young and mornings getting them ready for school were full of crankiness and problems. I was the one who set the tone. I wasn’t a “morning person” was my excuse. Truly I wasn’t getting enough sleep, but I had choices. So I prayed for God to make me more of a morning person and a desire to go to sleep earlier and get up earlier was born in me. That didn’t come from me, it was an answer to prayer. Soon, I woke up a little earlier than everyone else and spent time in quiet prayer and worship, I set a new tone and our mornings were much more pleasant. Not perfect, but pleasant.
I had always had my “quiet time” with God later in the day, and would tune out those who advised it first thing in the morning… because I didn’t like the mornings and I was focused on staying in bed til the last possible minute.
Today my prayer is to see if there is another habit I need to change to grow closer to the Lord and His will and purpose for me…
”Test me, Lord, and try me, examine my heart and my mind;“ Psalms 26:2
